Verse of the Day (September 22, 2020)

Verse of the Day (September 22, 2020) #BMSeminary – {vv. 1-7} This section continues the theme of Romans 14: gospel faith produces maximal regard for the good of others, not a relentless drive toward self-satisfaction through self-justification (15:1–2). Christ forwent his own rights and dignity so that salvation might come to others, in keeping with Old Testament prophecy (v. 3). These same Scriptures, the Bible upon which Jesus relied, are a primary source for Christian perseverance, direction, and resilience (v. 4). The Old Testament, Paul says, was written, ultimately, so that “we might have hope” (v. 4). The whole Bible is a message of hope, not, in the first instance, of demand. This section concludes with a glorious vision of the nature, activity, and agenda that can and should characterize every church (vv. 5–7). [Gospel Transformation Study Bible]
