But the switch heightens the poetic imagery because the two notions are interchangeable. As his flock, God’s people receive pasture, which means that they are under his care (23:1-6; 100:3). {Today} The psalmist applies the message of Exod 17:1-7; Num 14:21-35 to each reader’s generation.
