The expression is similar to the song of deliverance sung by the people of Israel when they crossed the Red Sea (Ex. 15:12). John 4:14 is reminiscent of the water out of the wells of salvation. Excellent things are majestic things. These great things are to be preached to the whole world and sung and shouted aloud, for great is the Holy One of Israel.
