Verse of the Day (June 5, 2020) #BMSeminary – This passage is very comforting, but there is no comfort in it for those who are not saved. Only those who are watching for the day of the Lord Jesus, so that that day will not overtake them as a thief, will find any comfort in this verse (and the preceding ones). The word “comfort” used here is the same one translated “exhort” in other places. Note Heb 3:13. This command to comfort one another is similar to that in 1Th 4:18. The word edify means to “build up.” So often people tear one another down, and discourage one another. What we say to one another is tremendously important. Often a word of encouragement can change a person’s entire outlook and attitude, and actions. This word translated “edify” is also used in Jud 1:20: “Building up yourselves in your most holy faith.” Also it is in Rom 15:2: “Let each one of you please his neighbor for his good to edification.” [CollegePress]
